You do need to remove the bolt on the chainring side. It’s common for them to be very tight – get plenty of leverage and use penetrating oil if you have to. With the bolt removed, use a square taper crank puller to remove the arm. [This video](https://youtu.be/cPQyQnNdews?si=fIcUGGXdULxEVaAX) shows the process starting at 4:58.

Shimano Acera x crank.
You need a crank puller.

Please verify that crank is not recalled if you intend to reuse it: https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/information/customer-services/recalls-and-repairs/fc-ct90-m920-mc12-cranks.htm.html
You need to remove the bolt before using crank puller on that side. Using the crnak puller without remove the bolt will damage the crank.
There are two types of crank pullers. Square taper and for Octalink/ISIS. make sure yours is compatible with square taper.
Post a photo of your puller.
Why don’t people just google “remove crank from bike” anymore? I just don’t get it.
Task complete. Appreciate it everyone.
