As the title says, I'm looking for name of the tool or socket bit used to remove my crank? Also, are there different sizes? I have no idea what the size of mine is, but it's part of my Specialized 2015 Elite E5 gravel bike. Groupset is a 10-speed GRX400, if that helps. I was planning on cleaning the BB and regreasing.

  1. There’s a large star type plastic tool that you can order, I’m sure you just need to type in external crank bolt tool, it should be one size fits most. Let me know if you can get it.

  2. Shimano Hollowtech crank arm tensioner tool and an Allen key.. Tl fc16. Heaps of off brand ones around. In a pinch you can just use a coin.

Standard size for all Hollowtech cranks. Shimano bb bearings aren’t really serviceable.

  4. I think some cranksets have a little tool that’s that weird star shape that loosens it, and some other brands make them too. Idk specifically but try looking up your cranksets name GRX and crank removal tool

  5. You can just jam a plastic tire lever in there in a pinch…

    But use the right tool

  6. I used to use the back end/handle of a spoon as a makeshift wide screwdriver and it worked fine

Just remember to loosen the bolts before you do
