Why would you cut it when it has a bloom?
What do you use as pest prevention or treat pests on your orchids?
This does work yes but may result in smaller blooms but you can cut the entire spike off and cool down the temperature at night during the fall by 5 to 10 degrees to stress the orchid into producing another like in nature if not it will just grow leaves and remember to feed them they need energy to create beautiful flowers (edited to add this is mainly for phalaenopsis for the temperature thing, orchids like vanda that share a similar root structure and growth habits doesn't need a cool down period instead they prefer warmer climates like 80 to 90F or 26C to 32C also orchids like this one need multiple sets of leaves in order to regrow a spike they will never appear on the top set only on the lower ones)
What if there's only 1 spike?
I absolutely love my orchidβs, and of course my houseplants π
The cutting in case of die-back was a good tip! I hadn't thought of that.
Thank you. I was wondering how to cut with 2 spikes
This is not good advice. Cut that stem completely off, it will grown new ones and rejuvenate the roots better.
No idea why people cut their flower spikes. If it doesn't shrivel naturally then you'll get another flower shoot at the next node and so on.
Crazy. Just leave them!
Thanks! Just got one off the clearance rack.
What about three spikes?
both of my orchids lost their flower spike and itβs been 8-12 months and i feed them every 2 weeks what can I do?
So do you always cut the limbs after the flowers die. Also how should I water my orchid thatβs in just orchid mix and how often?
I chop orange peel and raw garlic together and soak them in warm/hot, Not boil water overnight then dilute water to make a mild solution and spray on leaves and root, NOT ON FLOWERS. Work really well and my orchids are healthy with thick green shiny leaves. They still carrying flowers for many months already, vibrant colors and big. Also use a piece of clean cloth to damp in the solution and gently wipe the leaves to help fast absorption. Try !

What do you do when the stalk does?

What if the spikes are completely rotted? I rescue orchids sometimes and I have a couple that I've had for a year and they never grew back their spikes.
I still get flowers despite not cutting my orchid spikes although my grandma and my mom cut the spikes.
