  1. This does work yes but may result in smaller blooms but you can cut the entire spike off and cool down the temperature at night during the fall by 5 to 10 degrees to stress the orchid into producing another like in nature if not it will just grow leaves and remember to feed them they need energy to create beautiful flowers (edited to add this is mainly for phalaenopsis for the temperature thing, orchids like vanda that share a similar root structure and growth habits doesn't need a cool down period instead they prefer warmer climates like 80 to 90F or 26C to 32C also orchids like this one need multiple sets of leaves in order to regrow a spike they will never appear on the top set only on the lower ones)

  2. I chop orange peel and raw garlic together and soak them in warm/hot, Not boil water overnight then dilute water to make a mild solution and spray on leaves and root, NOT ON FLOWERS. Work really well and my orchids are healthy with thick green shiny leaves. They still carrying flowers for many months already, vibrant colors and big. Also use a piece of clean cloth to damp in the solution and gently wipe the leaves to help fast absorption. Try !
