Edit 2: thanks all! Looks like a Sugino (clone) or Stronglight crankset will be the way to go.
original post:
After years running only 1x and singlespeed bikes, I'm looking to convert my road/allroad bike to a double up front.
Right now I have a beautiful 130BCD Shimano 600 ultegra crankset that you can't really see in the picture lol but I would really like to go to a 34/44 double and my 130BCD crank can only go down to 38t.
Reason I want 34/44 is a mix of very long flat rides for which I really prefer super tight gear spacing, and hilly rides where I need lower gears than an 11-28 cassette on a 42t single ring can offer me.
Right now I'm running an 11-32 cassette that I put on for hilly rides but on long flat rides I really really miss that 16t cog from my 11-28 cassette…
So far the best option I found is the Sunrace FCR96 but it's a lot heavier than I would like.
Edit: I'm based in Belgium (Europe)

Always love seeing this bike posted! I remember your initial restoration/progress thread!
Not sure where you’re based, but Spa Cycles in the UK have a great selection of Sugino/Sugino clone cranks for very reasonable prices. Even if they won’t ship to you, they might be able to give you a lead on part numbers you can search for.
Failing that, Middleburn are the super bougie option for 💰💰💰
If in the US, the Soma/New Albion Clipper cranks would work. They’re also a Sugino clone/re-pop.

Dunno if these work for you (or me, ha!), but I was just looking at buying a used 130bcd crankset and strapping one of these to it for a wide-range double.

The SR Super Custom is a beautiful option that would fit your style of build if you can find it. If you’re not set against modern components I’d take a look at the Stronglight Impact, though. Self-extracting, nicely built. I personally like the shape too. If you’re based in Belgium I’m pretty sure you could find one fairly easily.
Sugino XD2
Crust bikes has a new crankset called the Heartbreaker. Looks like they can ship anywhere other than Spain:

Sugino AT! The original 110/74 crankset, plus if you like fussing with bike parts they come with a project of “figure out a wacky asymmetrical spindle”
Great shot!
