  1. You can run any old 8 speed chain. I do so on every 5/6/7/8 speed bike I own without problems

  2. Check the current chain stretch. You might want a new cassette too.

    Also, be wary of all chains on AliExpress, eBay, or Amazon. A lot of fakes out there.

    buy the cheap 6,7,8 speed from Shimano and change as needed. nothing to overthink with these bikes. simplicity is the best part of them.

    A Shimano HG40 is perfectly fine. I use HG71 on all mine, but I’ve used HG40 and it’s also very good. Why are you looking to change?

    Any 6/7/8 chain will do fine. I find the hg-40 from Shimano tends to wear out quite fast, I prefer KMC, dont overthink, dont overspend.
