A-STax32 on November 7, 2025 1:17 pm You can run any old 8 speed chain. I do so on every 5/6/7/8 speed bike I own without problems
426Mopar on November 7, 2025 1:24 pm Check the current chain stretch. You might want a new cassette too. Also, be wary of all chains on AliExpress, eBay, or Amazon. A lot of fakes out there.

stainedgreenberet on November 7, 2025 1:50 pm buy the cheap 6,7,8 speed from Shimano and change as needed. nothing to overthink with these bikes. simplicity is the best part of them.
Careful-One5190 on November 7, 2025 2:20 pm A Shimano HG40 is perfectly fine. I use HG71 on all mine, but I’ve used HG40 and it’s also very good. Why are you looking to change?
seriouslyaverage on November 7, 2025 2:28 pm Any 6/7/8 chain will do fine. I find the hg-40 from Shimano tends to wear out quite fast, I prefer KMC, dont overthink, dont overspend.
sa547ph on November 7, 2025 2:35 pm KMCs are more solid. Mine’s almost 10,000km and yet to let me down.

i’d just get Shimano or KMC and be done with it
I run Shimano 8 speed on my 7-speed drivetrain.
