I just found this around 3cm (1-1,5inch) crack on the front of my bicycle. The frame is aluminium. I had a heavy fall a few years ago since then i made just around ~50 with it.
For display, perfectly safe, I wouldn’t ride it though.

For us? No. For you? Definitely. Do not ride that bike.

Not dangerous in the least because you are never gonna ride this bike again. It’s a goner.
SGexpat on
Nope. You can sometimes warranty.
You can also buy just a frame and swap your parts over.

I wonder what a framebuilder would say. Looking at it as just a guy who fixes things I’m wondering if you could sweat a collar over the top, do some fill, and how long that would last. I bet that for $$$ a real framebuilder might have a solution.
That said, for me it’s trash now.

Yeah the frame’s finished

Riding a Kent is risky enough…this is now the riskiest Kent. New bike time!
Isn’t any and every crack on the bike frame dangerous and bike life ending?

I wouldn’t try it, my fork ripped apart on impact because of one I didnt see😅

She’s done. Good thing you found it. I almost went on a 40 mile mixed terrain group ride and found a crack in the chainstay the day before the ride. Zero chance the chainstay would have survived that ride. I’d like to say I inspect my stuff as often as I should, but I don’t.
It’s fine. Just get a few worm clamps, torque em down, some jb weld, and yer good to go!!
J/K, it’s trash. You already knew the answer.

Depends. Could you bring the bike to a controlled stop if that part of the frame suddenly failed? I know I couldn’t.

yeah i mean it’s going to cause the forks to fall off eventually. Probably won’t fail catastrophically like the Titan sub or anything, but yeah replace asap.

What is everyone’s feeling on using this for an indoor-trainer-only bike? Does anyone have experience with this?

Really depends on how good you are with a TIG welder… But if you were, you probably wouldn’t be asking, so does it mean enough to you to find a welder to fix it and validate concentricity, and finished internal diameter meets original spec. But you’d likely be better off putting that $ towards a different bike. Doesn’t have to be a new one either. Marketplace is full of great used bikes. My local shops all have a string of second hand bikes in great shape for cheap.
