Randstad things, people keep forgetting there is a huge part of the netherlands where you can park without any issue, ive had a mates race cycle he uses to tour across europe unlocked in front of my house for days now and it's still there, and no this isn't some small village.
it must be like 40 with a dew point near 15 there that sun will suck it out of you maybe that is why not much riding are they waiting for the sun to set ?
Sad but true, as a Dutch citizen it's a sad reality, (bike) thieves, pickpockets, even rapists if from non European descent even when caught in the Netherlands wouldn't even have to get locked up for a year, it became a joke of a country. Can remember when was younger could leave our doors unlocked when playing outside. Demographics have changed I guess.
Not Netherlands, but I used to live in a big city in Germany. Every time my bike got stolen I bought a cheaper bike and a more expensive lock. At some point I arrived at the combination of a 350 euro bike and a 120 euro lock, and this bike didnβt get stolen anymore. In my opinion, the cheapest bike thatβs good enough is the best bike for the big city, because itβs still there when You need it, while an expensive bike likely isnβt, and even if it gets stolen, the cheaper the bike the less You lose.
Is it really that bad in the Netherlands? It didn't seem so in 2014 when I visited but then again the country was nicer and less "enriched" then. Here in America with a crappy old mountain bike I am chaining both wheels to the frame with heavy chain locks and at least one of those chains wrap around a fixed object if its not possible to do both. Hasn't been stolen yet.

Iβm Dutch, and I regularly forget to lock my bike. But itβs so ugly it never gets stolen.
Nah bc valid my friends bike costs more than β¬700 she's scared to walk five steps further without adding the two safe guards
Yes, because our multi culture friends love a free bike… otherwise it would be the same here.
Tja en door wie zou dit komen? Een flink aantal jaartjes geleden kon dat hier ook gewoon.
Letting criminals into your country tends to make things worse
ze moeten in NL ook gewoon je poot er afhakken als je iets steelt
When i was young 50 years ago dutch people like her did not exist , neither did the amount of crime !

Those are road bikes with clipless pedals. Have fun trying to drop these guys angrily sprinting after you with normal shoes.

I am in France and i lock the saddle to the frame, the front wheel to the frame and the frame to something strong. 200β¬ of locks…
Maar vroeger was dat niet……
Inmiddels jatten ze alles wat los en vast zitππ
because they kick out all the illegals.
Yeah itβs Dubai there are rich people areas with no poor and there are no human rights for the non rich. I wouldnβt call that amazing
Because in Dubai, they cut off your hands if you steal something.
This used to be possible in the Netherlands, a side from the biggest cities.
At least women and workers have rights in Nederland….
Big difference sitting next to your bike at a cafe and leaving it out over night π
Dubai is terrible destination for cycling
We used to be able to do that in the Netherlands too. But we are no longer a high trust society
Here in Florida if you ride in the bike lane not the sidewalk cars will get angry and even sometimes hit you.
Dubai is a very lack of personality place

That's the transitional price for human freedom
"Unattended" is when you are sitting right next to your bike.

In Dubai bikes donβt need locks because most people donβt use bicycles π
This woman don't look dutch.
in dubai theyre so rich theres no reason to steal a bike.
unless your the other 99% of the people who live there in poverty who cant even afford bikes
