I was torquing my stem clamp bolts to 6nm (according to the stem itself) and the threads on one of the 3 holes snapped. (The leftmost in the pictures)

The other 2 are still providing enough clamping force that the steerer tube doesnt spin in relation to the stem/handlebar.

Another stem like this is apparently hard to find and expensive.

Should I have torqued to less than 6nm?

What does it say on the stem? If it says to torque to 6Nm, and the stem broke before getting to that point, it’s a warranty issue.

I would NOT ride on this at all as I prefer to keep all of my teeth intact. YMMV.

You wouldn’t want to risk it.

I get that manufacturers sometimes choose proprietary stems (for ‘aero’ or cable routing purposes), but to stray so far from proven simple solutions just seems unnecessary to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Insane if the threads broke before 6Nm.
Every day on Reddit makes me happy I can’t afford a fancy carbon bike.
