    Those are cranks. The bearing they spin on is called the Bottom Bracket (commonly BB). BB’s are a notorious source of creaking. 

    Pull the chain off the chainring and spin the cranks by hand. If you feel any grinding then you’ve found the problem. Replace the BB.

    Pulling it apart and greasing everything usually solves any other creaks. Requires a 8mm hex key and a 16 notch BB tool (Shimano style).
