First, i burned off most of the fur with a lighter. Then i got the bike in the tub and used a chain-cleaning tool, stain remover fluid (resolve, shout etc), and a brush to scrub everything off. Then a rinse, wipe, dry lube, and wipe.
Thanks for all the tips!

It was most likely the factory lube that was too sticky, and the position of this bike near a draft where cat fur accumulates and moves. My other bikes were fine. Still washed them to prepare for the season!
Wait. “I got the bike in a tub”
What?
I see your quick release link on your chain.
All you had to do was pop it off, clean it, lube it, and put it back on. All this drama over a few minutes of work.
Well that’s a wild way to do it but glad it worked.
wind tunnel testing revealed that a cat hair covered chain saved 0.027 watts of power by creating a boundary layer effect. Now you’ll be slower.

The update we needed
And how did the cat feel when you did that?
Bye bye bicycle pubes 👋🏽
I didn’t know that chains can get so hairy if you don’t wax them
