Someone recently broke into our apartment garage and stole a bike. A few days later, my mom and I are planning on biking and we find this device attached to the side. Google says it’s a bike activity tracker that tracks speed and stuff, but it doesn’t say if it tracks location or not. I’m worried because I don’t know what it is. Does anyone know what it is or why someone would attach it to my mom’s bike?

Highly unlikely to be a GPS tracker. It uses a magnet on a spoke and tracks speed that way

  2. It wirelessly transmits the speed the wheel is turning to a bike computer mounted to the handlebars 2 or 3 feet away. It’s useless for tracking, no need to worry.

Does your mom’s bike have a speedometer that doesn’t work now? If so you should put it back, if not it’s fine to remove it.
