  1. Leave the suspension alone.
If it needs work pay a shop or build it out and send it yourself👍
    Get wheels. Make it go!
On the cheap you can slap on
    Mt401 4 piston brakes
Narrow wide ring on a normal 104 BCD crank
    Rd-m3020 with an 11-40 cassette
    Annnnnnd
Claris flat bar shifter for a good dual release 8 speed shifter

That’s a lot of great info! Just dipping my toes back into the mountain biking world but I caught the itch the other day watching Red Bull Hardline haha, thank you for the insight! And I cannot wait to ride again

  3. You can service the suspension, but you’ll need a dropper seat post, brakes, wheels, tires, drivetrain and touch points (pedals, grips, seat). Look at the geometry compared to a modern bike and see what makes the most sense, either building it up or buying new.

I’m upgrading a 2014 Rockhopper, more to get back into it like you said. Plus I get to learn a bit about working on bikes while I save up for a new one.
