Devastating news today after building a new wheel, picking up a Surly disc trucker fork, and collecting all the parts to convert my Rockhopper just to measure the fork at 1” rather than the 1 1/8 I thought it was. Make sure to look before you leap y’all!

you could always just go without a headset, just be sure to keeps it loosey goosey and use lots of white lithium grease.

Sounds like it’s time to sell the Surly fork and shell out for a 1″ Stridsland Barnacle fork!
Oof, I’ve seen 1” threadless Sunlite chromoly disc forks for pretty cheap but I’m guessing you wanted the trucker for all the mounting options which the Sunlite wouldn’t have

Certainly a reason I appreciate Treks from this era. 1 1/8 but 1” threaded headset, making a conversion the easiest thing. GL op, rad setup
Can I ask what tyre size it is? It’s a 57-559 innit? Also could you measure axes-to-crown on the fork? I’m desperately looking for a rigid fork but really afraid to buy too short or too long. Your fork looks lit.

Lots of 1″ disk forks out there, and lots of machine shops if you find some old stuff you want to put eyelits on. Dont let the brands scare you from custom jobs.

I thought you could shim a 1” in a 1 1/8” headset, no?
If you’re not married to this frame you could find a frame with a 1 1/8” head tube for your fork and wheel. I’ve done a disc conversion on a rockhopper with a 1” headset and tbh it was a lot of work finding an appropriate headset and fork.
Bikeman has a Carver fork that will work.

I don’t know, not all it lost, seems like an opportunity to hang some streamers from the disc.
It would have been cheaper to just switch to vee brakes if you wanted lighter feel at the lever or easier adjustment. There are amazing threaded cartridge headsets from FSA and Tange. But a Tange Levin CDS is about $30, looks bomb, and packed with good grease will last a lifetime. What’s already on there is probably a cheaper Passage and they work great too! They’re only about $20 new.
I hope you can flip that fork so you don’t lose money. Threadless and disk brakes aren’t an upgrade for a bike that’s already well designed. If you’re not riding constantly in rain and mud and you’re not stopping 400 pounds, even the stock classic Shimano cantis are fine, especially with four finger levers.
