I just got a 2019 open up with an 11 speed SRAM force 42t chainring and a 10-42t cassette and I want to start racing in the Midwest areas, mainly Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Just wondering if I should swap it out for a 12 or even 13 speed?

Idk, you fast?
11-speed won’t be an issue when racing. The 42t chainring might be (it would be for me/where I ride), but spending some time on the bike might be the best way to figure out what size chainring you want. You might find 42t is fine, too.
You got no chance until you get 14 speed.
Depends are you racing for podiums, or completion??? Podiums your chainring is 100% a problem. Completion, you’re fine.
If you’re racing for podiums, put a 44T chainring on. If you’re racing to complete, maybe a 40T. My research into Midwest races leads me to believe that steep or long climbs are rare.
There was no bike racing before 12 speed.
Why do you feel you need more cogs?
I’ve seen people register for races on full suspension huffys, you’ll be fine. Get some saddle time and you’ll be race ready in no time!
These bot posts are getting good
Give it a go. If you miss out by a narrow margin it could be the gear
You need electronic 12spd shifting to compete. Ceramic speed pulleys and chain to win! /s
You have 11x more gears than I race with, you’ll be fine kiddo.
Sram makes a wide range 11 speed. Sure.
