

I think it’s rather odd for this type of failure. Was on a climb and heard the snap.
The only other chain that failed on me was over 10 y ago and failed at the rivet. Check chain monthly and clean drivetrain every two weeks or so. Baffled. Clearly a weak link.

I had a similar failure on an X10 chain a few months ago. That chain was bought from a reputable seller and had much less than 1000 km on it. I chalked it up to bad luck, as I’ve had a dozen other KMC chains that were fine…but you always wonder.
What do you use to clean the drive train?
Where did you buy the chain? On KMC’s website they have an explicit warning about counterfeit chains so it’s evidently a big problem for them:

My last KMC chain was trash too. Came on my brand new Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro. Switched to Shimano’s Ebike rated chain and had not a single issue.
