I’ve replaced the tires on my road bike. When I’m inflating them, they make these popping noises. They get increasingly louder as the pressure increases. On my rear wheel, I had the same thing happening. I deflated the tire and when I inflated it again, the noise was gone. Is this just the tire popping into place or should I be worried?

  1. It’s the tire bead popping into place, one of my favorite sounds. Bigger volume tires are boomier, but I’ll take tinny road tires too. But that’s a damn high pressure to seat a bead.

Edit: I hope you’re not going much over 5 bar. That’s a lot of pressure for what looks like 32s.

  2. That’s a sound you want to hear when installing tires – the bead not seating is a problem.

  3. Just asking, you chose to put the cheapest Continental tires on the market to some fairly expensive looking wheels?
