  1. If the spindle and crank square bore were clean and the crank bolt torqued to spec, you should be ok. I’ve seen some cranks not anywhere near the end of the taper.

  2. Is the new crankset the same as the old one? Different cranksets require different spindle lengths, it could be this crank is designed for a shorter spindle.

    If it’s not as tight as you can go with something like an 8” tool on it then it’s probably not torqued enough.
