Hi all,
I have a giant revolt advanced pro 1 I was planning to take on a big tour next year, Scotland to Singapore.
It comes with Carbon wheels, Giant CXR 1 carbon wheelset, they are made for gravel riding & giant claims they are pretty durable. They are light and fun to ride, so i’d rather not change them for an alloy wheeslet but if I should, then I will.
The wheels are here: [CXR 1 | Giant Bicycles UK (giant-bicycles.com)](https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/cxr-1)
I also asked Giant for the max rider/luggage weight for the bike (i’m around 75kg)
The Revolt range has a Rider Weight Limit of 136kg, with an additional 14kg of luggage.

Web link says they’re 24 spokes? Unless you can pack light the whole way, I would be hesitant on 24 spoked wheels. I travel on 32 spoked rims.
Even if you do go with this rims I strongly suggest taking it to a reputable LBS and rebuilding the wheels by hand, with new spokes if suggested. A hand built wheel is always stronger than a factory built wheel.
I assume you’re going to be going as light and as minimalist as possible. Your bike and wheels are unlikely to be easily repairable en route; any failures are likely to be catastrophic. Where are you going to charge you electronic shifters? Will you be carrying everything you need to replace and refill your hydraulic brake cables? Are you confident that you could true one of your wheels, or replace a spoke, that you’d probably need to order or carry with you? What’s the bike handling like with your gear on it?
I won’t say you can’t do it on those wheels and that bike. It’s just not a style I would feel comfortable with.
Scotland to Singapore? like in Asia? no way. scotland to london sure. be careful not sideload the wheel.
Yes, i bikepack on carbon. All over the rocky jeep trails of colorado, utah, and appalachia.
Amazingly durable. 3-4 people in my post covid pod bikepack loaded multiday back country on carbon. So much stronger and more reliable than aluminum.
BUT A race carbon wheel is not the same thing ad an offroad touring carbon wheel.
if you want a good 180 kg load bearing wheelset the [Ryde Andra](https://www.ryde.nl/rim-series/andra-series/) 36 spoke are a good option.
