Is this normal? Watch with sound

Tightening the screw by hand – finger tight at this stage using the shorter side of the Allen key to turn – and there’s this loud snapping sound which I’ve never heard of before.

I thought I might have cracked the carbon handlebar. I tighten a little further and there’s another snapping sound. Then I used my torque wrench to do it up tighter but it’s like way low at around 3-4 Nm.

I loosened everything completely to check the carbon for cracks, nothing. Then I do it up again and the same snapping sound happened. So I loosened it again and took this video.

  1. Agree with the others, sounds like band clamp snapping of something of the like – don’t think I’d worry about the carbon handlebar.

  2. It’s common! Just the metal plate on the nut side slipping into place. it’s more scary when it does this as you’re giving it a final torque and you always worry it’s the bars!
