Notebooks at the ready, Polin fans, because Professor Colin Bridgerton is about to give us quite the educational experience during Part 2 of our Polin rewatch of S2E8, The Viscount Who Loved Me.
We’ll be joining Pen as she is enlightened by an array of important lessons, including the geography and topography of American states, the less-than-ideal consequences of your best friend uncovering your deepest secret, and what exactly is and is not in Fife’s wildest fantasies.
We’ll also be throwing back champagne with Colin, sighing over an astonishing but doomed waltz and quietly sobbing by a statue as we watch Colin smash Pen’s heart like it’s one of Cressida’s necklaces.

this episode was a bit of a rough one😣 as much as i love him, Colin did disappoint in this one, but i cant wait to see his redemption! also, i cant believe you didnt mention one of the best lines Colin delivers in the show: this necklace is a fraud made of glass, just like you (i swear he probably felt so smug after that one, the boy is a writer after all)
this is not a playlist ep, but there is a song that just reminds me of show Colin and his arc so much, called: I'm a Liar by The Royston Club (maybe a bit of a character assassination, but done with love🥴it's on my s3 playlist nevertheless)
I've always wondered how Portia and Jack appeared so quickly. They had to have been right on Penelope and Colin's heels. I always assumed they saw Polin leave hand in hand. The behind the scenes tidbits (like the cut footage here) is one of the things that makes this podcast awesome.
Pen doesn't just believe a couple being alone in a room together means someone has been seduced. Her own sister is engaged because their mother tricked Jack into being alone in the orangery with her. That's why I find Pen's genuine alarmed protest when Colin closes the door behind them endearing… she doesn't want Colin to be trapped into marriage again and she wants him to marry her only if he truly wants her.
ETA: that "study of dreams" class comment was brutal. 🤣

I would love an episode on scenes from the book we hope to see in S3.
Some of mine are Colin saying he has to pray for Pen, Pen singing more than I thought I was then Colin asking her to dance in the rain, Pen falling on her face when Colin proposes, Portia being unable to conceive that Colin is offering for Pen, Colin's mirror promise, Colin being so pleased at holding Pen's hand for 5 minutes, Pen money, and Colin's near nervous breakdown when he let's Pen read his writing for the first time.

This second half of the episode is the most bitter sweet heavy on the bitter of all the moments of Polin. It’s so sad for Pen that Eloise said she wishes to never speak or see Pen ever again. This is going to be super drama filled once Pen and Colin are engaged bc they’ll be in situations they’ll have to meet. Also, the fact that even after the fight Pen still made the effort to look for Eloise, which shows she wanted to talk and find a mending of the friendship. It just sucks so much that having to have both her closest friends hurt her one after the other on the same night, man it’s a lot. Bc as much as she loves Colin he is also her friend so it just is such a loss for her: a loss of companionship, support, love and connection. Man I need season 3 to heal the pain of this hurt for us as fans and for Pen.
I feel like that moment of her hearing Colin has made her have a similar reaction Anthony had in the end of season 1. Bc in the end of season 1 he thought you can only fall in love once which to him was with Siena so he said he’d only marry as a responsibility and take love out of the equation which Pen said in her journey finding a husband love isn’t in the cards just freedom to write and leave her house. So Pen’s development for season 3 is a very Bridgerton journey. She now thinks she not only lost Colin as a possibility but also feels she will never find love. Colin’s journey is a very Bridgerton story driven too in that he has to explore something he never knew he needed to explore. But overall, so excited to see both their journeys in season 3.
