The huge M3 Junction 9 improvement project near Winchester is transforming one of Hampshire’s busiest road junctions, and it’s not just drivers who will benefit.
In this aerial drone update, we take a close look at the brand-new footpaths, cycle routes and active travel infrastructure currently under construction as part of the National Highways M3 Junction 9 scheme.
The project aims to improve connections between the M3 and A34 while also creating safer, more direct routes for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. When complete, the improvements will provide better links between Winchester, Kings Worthy, Easton and surrounding areas, helping to connect communities while reducing conflicts with traffic. National Highways says the scheme includes enhanced cycling and walking facilities, improved connections to National Cycle Route 23, additional footpaths and new multi-user routes across the junction area.
From the air, you can clearly see the scale of the works as new pathways emerge alongside major road construction, bridges, earthworks and landscaping. These routes form an important part of the wider project, which is designed to improve journey reliability, reduce congestion and create safer travel options for all users.

Another excellent video. I do appreciate the Tesco being marked. It helps orientate the picture really well.
That's all very well but where's Tesco? 😉
Be really good if they reinstate this walking and cycling route in and out of Winchester ahead of the full scheme completion. The diversion has a section along the Alresford road and is dangerous.
Have a word with Tesco, should get a couple free beers or pie out of them? 😉
Another excellent video.
Nice, picked up somethings I've missed on other vids.👍
