BMX Racing: first straight speed

Harley has always had a ‘thing’ between him and the gate.

Well, I say always. When he was little he loved the gate… got quite good coming out from it as fast as he could.

Then one day… he flipped the gate. Someone behind him made a noise and he reacted to it. Face first over the bars into the floor in front of him.

Took him months to get past that… just in time for it to happen again. This time it was someone blowing a toy horn while the gate was in sequence… again he reacted to it. Again he flipped the gate.

Now he refuses to react to the beeps or the lights, he reacts when he knows he’s heard enough beeps to believe that gate will actually drop… 🥺❤️

Poor Harley finds himself last or almost last out of every gate. With his reactions getting faster he’s even learned ways to prevent his bike going forward too soon… again… because he doesnt want to hit or flip the gate.

But after a year of being cut off by all the other kids Harley has decided its time to face that fear and learn the gate properly… and here he is practicing at his home track and club for 2027: Nuneaton BMX track.
