A man caught by police with a 10-inch hunting knife has been jailed.
Police were on patrol in Cambridge on 7 November when they spotted Tyrique Rhodd on his bicycle.
When the 21-year-old noticed police were behind him, he cycled off at speed before abandoning the bike in New Street and running away.
Officers ran after him and after witnessing him remove a knife from his waistband and attempt to discard it, he was arrested.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (16 November), Rhodd, of no fixed address, was sentenced to six months in prison after previously pleading guilty to possession of a knife in a public place.
PC Ollie Hagen, from the Neighbourhood Support Team, said: “This was a great spot by officers who were on patrol in the area. I would encourage anyone who has information or concerns about someone who carries a knife or other weapon to report it to us.”

Unreal to me that the kid could literally decide to kill him at any time and all the officer would have is a taser that is practically useless against a guy wearing that kind of jacket

As a Brit there is a large amount of knife crime in the uk but it’s 99% gang related teens and young adults will tend to carry kitchen knife’s or small machetes in their waistband to threaten or attack or gangs but there’s also areas that are more prominent like London and Liverpool etc especially areas with low income housing and generally poorer areas knofes are legal to carry if it’s is under 3 inches in length and you have a reasonable use to carry it such as work hunting farm related but not self defence, there has been efforts to lower knife crime but the low level gangs use them as guns are hard to get in the uk not illegal just restricted, which in my opinion is better as you can run from a 17yr old gang member with a knife but not one with a gun , and yes guns are cool not the solution , if you’re interested in this there’s a sculpture in the uk which is an angel made entirely out of knives taken off the street it’s depressing but it is what it is

This convict is lucky he doesn’t live in the states. Had he been here the officer would have lawfully and rightfully sent him to meet his creator if he was armed with a 10 inch knife and running towards innocent people.
