No, they shouldn’t look like that.
I think there were some batches that were heat treated incorrectly and ended up being brittle, causing this. It may be warranty-able. Otherwise you can buy a replacement ratchet set if you have problems with that one engaging.

If those are from 240 or 180 hubs that are 2-5 years old Google “dt start ratchet recall”. They have a form to fill out. They mail you new ratchet rings then you mail old ones back.

I did not know this was possible and I’m very impressed. Clearly I don’t have enough watts.

The ratchets are wear items and those show signs of wear. You could either ride them as is until they show signs of slipping under load or look at black friday sales to snag some new *authentic* DT ratchets. The 54 teeth are great for MTB, but not necessary for road IMO and slightly less durable. 36t is a good compromise in performance and longevity. 18t is for the road, or for people who love a quiet hub.

not supposed to look like that, those are badly chipped
They are definitely chipped. I’m curious if they are authentic? I have heard there are knock offs out there.
Which hubs are these from? There were issues with early version of 240 EXP hub.
