my friend recently got his hands on a relatively nice electric bike and wanted to join us on our 2nd trip down to Wildwood New Jersey! We altered the route a little bit to avoid a couple massive hills, it did add 45 miles to the total trip. (201 miles) inside the reinforced baby trailer was a power station that was able to recharge his battery 2 1/2 times giving him about 170 miles of range. if he conserved his battery, This system actually worked out perfect! Evan was on a 1957 ross commuter bike with a 3 speed internal hub and I was on my fat bike. Of course we had our fair share of mechanical issues, my friend Evan getting seven flat tires across the entirety of the trip, and my rear hub bearings literally exploding but aside from that nothing too terrible happened (yet). It was a good mix of pavement, Gravel paths and terrible wet back roads. We had a absolute blast at the beach for a week. My friend got stung by something in the ocean and had to get a ride back and me and we ended up doing 155 miles in 26 hours! When we got back home my friend is talking about planning his own solo trips and saving up for some better gear as well as the fabricating a custom trailer.
Getting a friend hooked on bikepacking, but in the worst way possible!
