The title is a line from a Rush song, "Passage to Bangkok." They were singing about more illicit kinds of agriculture, but the recent post about best banana storage practices prompted me to wonder what you all have received from locals along the road. Here are items that were offered to me as I toured the back roads of Northern Thailand.

Bottled water from Thai border police. Pepsi from a middle aged woman in China who used to race bicycles but now rides a motorscooter wearing a cycling race helmet. An energy drink when I stopped to fix someone’s bike in Taiwan. Rambutan (fruit) in Malaysia. Peaches from a farm stand in Korea. Lunch for two at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere in Taiwan, invited by a local university professor. T-shirts from the Malaysia tourism board office. A Malaysian flag. A huge bag of peanuts from farmers in Taiwan. An apple from Christian evangelists on a ferry boat in Japan.
Those were all in Asia and I’m sure I forgot some. Now for gifts received while touring in Europe:
Hot coffee on the top of a climb/mountain that was completely clouded over/ raining in Norway by a nice older couple from Stavanger in a campervan.
