Security did not go out of their way to engage with you, which was probably sensible from their part. However, with no access to the public, doing security work here must be a relatively cushy job.

The main DVLA offices in a tower block, Trillium data centre and campus are about 1 mile due west in Morriston plus the DVLA printing output facility in Fforestfach to the southwest (visited by DJ and few years ago TGA). Fforestfach includes data servers for printing IDs for DVLA and Borders Agency foreign nationals.
The gov uk publishes details on the DVLA buildings with Richard Ley described as training, call centre and conferences services. The offices and call centre refurbished by Barnfield Construction with interior photos. Prior to 2013 sign stated Council Centre (the works mentioned by gentleman at the gate).
To be honest, the DVLA are more concerned about cyber security threats, rather than a magnet on a gate 😅. It is much easier to cause mayhem in the comfort of a chair tapping away on a keyboard than a physical attack. And causes much more disruption.

One of the buildings behind the DVLA is home to the records store for the local NHS trust
Call them out for not having solar panels. Applies to all buildings.
They will have excuses but the site management know they could and should; especially Gov buildings who should lead by example
