Tried my first real attempts at airing out today and have some questions.
Does this count? I got my front wheel above the coping and then the back, but not at the same time.
How can I get higher, and before I do that, what are some fundamental things I might be missing or need to work on?
If it helps, it’s a 5ft quarter pipe, and this is the only angle I filmed, I may try to get the opposite angle when I go back.

That coping is weird on that quarter at 4S. You just gotta go faster, and carve a little more. Lots of practice! Feel the bump jump of the front tire leaving and it’s almost like a bunny hop. I’d say go to Tosa skatepark and try those smaller 4 foot quarters if it gets nice out.
Shoutout Milwaukee!
As above, try carving across a bit. Small quarters are tricky as you need a steeper ramp to really air high. 5ft is kind of the lower limit but depends how steep it is, even then it’s kinda tight if it is steep, to time the pop. My rule is speed=height / hop=hangup.
You can’t hop/pump your way to high air outside of small quarters. What I mean is, on a shallow ramp you *can* air a few feet out with little speed, but that maxes out when you ad speed as you literally can’t stay in the ramp.
It’s better to learn to air higher by adding speed gradually and reserving your pump/pop to only guide yourself out of the ramp at the right angle to land back in the coping. This builds a natural sense of how hard to hop on certain ramps because you’re not trying to control both your height and trajectory in one movement. If you rely on pop to go high, when you add speed later it all goes out the window.
Hope this makes sense. More of a concept but it’s worked for me.
