Our slow road trip through Poland comes to an end 🇵🇱❤️ After days of avoiding motorways, discovering Polish villages, countryside, historic towns, local food and some of the most beautiful places in Poland, we have one final slow journey ahead of us: from a peaceful morning in Kazimierz Dolny, through five hours of Polish countryside, back to Kraków — and eventually to a quiet lake near Katowice.
But first, we wake up in Kazimierz Dolny.
After experiencing this beautiful Polish town with dark clouds, wind and rain the day before, we decide to see it one more time.
This time at 8 AM on a Monday morning.
And what a difference.
The tourists are gone.
The sun is shining.
The streets are almost empty.
There are just a few locals beginning their day, while we slowly walk through the historic streets and Market Square of Kazimierz Dolny.
No crowds. No rushing.
Just one of the most beautiful towns in Poland waking up.
It feels like we have discovered another side of Kazimierz Dolny.
After our peaceful morning walk, we have breakfast at one of the town’s famous bakeries before getting back into the car for the final part of our road trip through Poland.
And we deliberately choose the slow way again.
No motorway.
Instead, we spend around five hours driving through Polish villages and countryside on our way back to Kraków.
Small roads.
Fields.
Farms.
Forests.
Villages we probably never would have seen if we had chosen the fastest route.
This entire road trip has reminded us that travelling isn’t only about the places waiting at the destination.
Sometimes the road itself is the experience.
Eventually, we arrive back in Kraków, where Poland suddenly gives us a completely different kind of September day.
It’s hot and sunny, so we get on our bicycles and cycle through the city.
And although our road trip has technically brought us back to where we started, our journey isn’t quite finished yet.
We eventually travel towards Katowice, where we end this adventure beside a peaceful lake.
One final moment to slow down.
One final moment to reflect.

This was never just a road trip from one Polish city to another.
It was an experiment in travelling differently.
What happens when you stop trying to get through Poland as quickly as possible?
When you leave the motorways behind?
When you choose small countryside roads?
When you stop in villages you didn’t plan to visit?
When you notice the fields, orchards, people, food, weather and tiny moments along the way?
For us, the answer became clearer with every kilometre:

During this journey we travelled from Kraków to Zalipie, Sandomierz, Lublin and Kazimierz Dolny, deliberately avoiding motorways and choosing smaller roads through the Polish countryside.

Kedy nie ma ludzi kiedy nie ma turystów ich miejsca zajmują gołębie. To stary bywalec naszych rynków w Polsce. Inaczej jest w Krakowie tam gołębie walczą o swoje miejsce z Turystami. Pozdrawiam jak zwykle moją rodaczkę , lubie panią słuchać w pani słowach tyle miłości wdzięku. Już niejednokrotnie pisałem że jestem w Pani zakochany tylko ta starosc . Ona wyznacza mi granice.
Oto krótka lista małych, urokliwych miejscowości w południowej Polsce o podobnym klimacie do Kazimierza Dolnego:
Lanckorona (Małopolska) – drewniana zabudowa rynku z XIX w., ruiny zamku, klimat artystycznej wsi na wzgórzu; często nazywana „małopolskim Kazimierzem".
Sandomierz (Świętokrzyskie) – renesansowy rynek, podziemna trasa turystyczna, Brama Opatowska, wąwozy lessowe i skarpa nad Wisłą.
Zalipie (Małopolska) – „malowana wieś" – domy zdobione kwiatowymi wzorami, bardzo fotogeniczna.
Tyniec / Kalwaria Zebrzydowska (Małopolska) – opactwo benedyktynów nad Wisłą; sanktuarium wpisane na listę UNESCO.
Szczebrzeszyn (Lubelskie) – klimatyczne miasteczko na Roztoczu, synagoga, cerkiew, festiwal języka polskiego.
Zwierzyniec (Lubelskie) – „kościół na wodzie", stary browar, brama do Roztoczańskiego Parku Narodowego.
Lipnica Murowana (Małopolska) – drewniany kościół św. Leonarda (UNESCO), kameralny rynek.
Bardo (Dolny Śląsk) – małe miasteczko nad Nysą Kłodzką z bazyliką i pięknym położeniem w górach.
Lądek-Zdrój (Dolny Śląsk) – najstarsze uzdrowisko w Polsce, zabytkowy rynek, kamienny most, klimat „retro".
Chełmsko Śląskie (Dolny Śląsk) – drewniane „Domy Tkaczy" i barokowa zabudowa, mało turystów.
Stary Sącz (Małopolska) – brukowany rynek, klasztor klarysek, klimat prowincjonalnego miasteczka.
Bieliny / Bodzentyn (Świętokrzyskie) – ruiny zamku, podnóże Łysicy, spokojna atmosfera.
