I asked a few weeks ago about the shifter cable housing touching the chainring – there was bit of slack after me installing a Joseph Kuosac midrise bar (see second to last pic) – and as a result I cable tied the rear brake & shifter housings together (as per last pic).
Whilst it worked in keeping them away from the chainring, there’s still a little play, with the shifter housing always wanting to go out wider towards the chainring. Ok I could have done the cable tie a little tighter (& closer to the chainring), but I’m always a bit scared of doing them too tight then struggling to cut them off without damaging anything. Also I only had white cable ties to hand, which look a bit rubbish.
I’ve now replaced the cable ties with these, which seem like the perfect solution. Jagwire (same brand as the stock housing) ‘Wire Hooks’ – 4.0mm shift + 5.0mm brake (Model CHA167), 4 pack.
They hold the rear brake & shifter cable housings tightly, and best of all hold one directly above the other, which hopefully should keep them away from the chainring. They are black and also look neater than cable ties.
I highly recommend these for ‘stacking’ the rear brake housing over the shifter housing, thus keeping them away from the chainring. That said, they may not be needed if you’re using the stock handlebars, but for me after lowering the rise of my H stem by 3.5cm when installing the JK midrise bar, they seem perfect. Hope this helps
