Bought a set of Schwalbe Winter tyres with 120 studs, because my LBS only had those available today. I actually hoped to get 240 studded versions. The tyres have those empty holes in the thread so I’m wondering if I can order extra studs and make them the same as the 240 studded version? Thanks!

You can, it’s even in the manual.
I would try. There is a tool from Schwalbe and spare studs.
Yup, saw the Schwalbe studs and tool on sale in my local supermarket today.
May not want to ride them until you do put additional studs in. I have read those existing holes fill in with debris and then the studs don’t get set as deep as they should which means lost studs.
There are (at least) two versions of Schwalbe bike studs; flat (which you have) and spike version. Spikes grip better on ice but these flat ones should last longer
Also if adding new studs may I recommend cycling on tarmac for a few miles to bed them in
After you put the extra studs in the tire be sure to get in 30-40km on pavement before Ice and snow. It seats the studs and they last longer.
Yes. Spray the hole with rubbing alcohol and it’ll make it much easier to insert the studs.
