François Patriat, a veteran French politician and longtime supporter of President Emmanuel Macron, has died at 83 following a serious cycling accident.
Patriat was injured in a crash on July 17 and received medical treatment before dying at a hospital in Dijon on August 19.
He had been serving as a senator for Côte-d’Or and was president of the RDPI parliamentary group in the French Senate.
Patriat’s political career spanned more than five decades, including service as a government minister, National Assembly member and regional leader in Burgundy.
His death came weeks before he had planned to complete his final Senate term.
