The massive transformation of M3 Junction 9 near Winchester continues as work progresses on one of the UK’s most significant highway improvement projects.
In this drone footage update, I have overlaid the approximate future road layout directly onto the construction site so you can see exactly where the new roads, slip roads, bridges and free-flow connections will be located.
The scheme is designed to improve traffic flow between the M3, A34 and A33, removing a long-standing congestion hotspot on the strategic road network and improving connections between the South Coast, Midlands and London.
What’s changing?

National Highways says the project will create free-flowing links between the M3 and A34 in both directions, helping reduce congestion and improve journey times through this critical transport corridor.

Small corrections please. At 1:55, the bottom right caption states A33/A34 but will only be A34. There’s no longer a southbound A33/A34 merge south of Kings Worthy. Also in two places the Winnal/A33 link is shown with an ‘S’, but is going to be two way traffic.
