  1. Hey folks, just snapped a chain so thought I’d put in a new cassette as well. I had a 11-46 and new one is an 11-50, both 11 speed, on an older Shimano SLX RD.

The second largest and largest cogs are very close to the derailleur. I turned the b-screw in and second largest shifts cleanly. But the largest cog still contacts the cage a bit, can’t see it but I can hear it.

Wanted to bounce some solutions off of the community before committing to them:

    1. Should I be shortening my chain? I’m at 2 half links longer than the big-big method, because that method recommended a length shorter than my previous chain and I thought that was a bit sketchy.
    2. Or should I be turning the derailleur forward/backward on the hanger mounting bolt? I couldn’t find a reference to understand if the angle of my derailleur is correct.

    Thanks for reading.

  2. The derail angle at the hangar is not adjustable, there should be only one correct way to attach it.

Are you sure this derail has the capacity for a 50T cassette?

Is this a hardtail or FS bike?

  3. Just from this angle it looks like either the mech is bent or your hanger is bent. It should be pretty much a straight line over the pulleys and the sprocket it is on.
