In this infrastructure comparison, we test cycle path density in the US versus the Netherlands using the exact same 1 km map scale. By placing American rural routes side-by-side with the Dutch cycling grid, we examine how urban planning cycling infrastructure shapes daily travel, car dependency, and non-car mobility between communities.

To be fair: the Netherlands has 541 people per km² while the US has 34 per km² but if you compare it to areas in the US with similar population density it will still be less because it's a policy and cultural difference
Eestlasena mõistan sinu soove ja mõtteid ,et saaks peale auto muud viisi ka liikuda , kas jala või rattaga. Eks unistada tuleb suurelt siis on see võimalik ellu viia.
So…. I am not sure how to break this to you, but the Routenet network shown for The Netherlands, is not an exhaustive overview of available bicycle path connections. That's just the 'convenient for easy-to-follow navigation' main cycling routes. For every cycling path in that map, there are dozens more off-the-main-route cycling paths not shown.
So in the USA it is easier to go to the moon than to install some cycling infrastucture?
The complete bicycle infrastructure in the Netherlands is over 150.000 km long (shared roads and paths included). Dedicated cycling infrastructure is over 40.000 km.
ooowke my friend listen up to one crucial thing 🤔
amerika is 271 times BIGGER then the netherlands
for example texas is allready 15 times bigger then the netherlands
and putting a bikelane from city A to B you wil ride a day on your bycicle to reach the next town or city while you can drive on your electrick bike in a few hours from rotterdam to amsterdam
WHAT americans can do is made citys and towns more bike friendly (what never going to be happen there americans drive cars the bigger the better instead of riding a bycicle)
but even going for grocerys you need a car to drive a long end to get to the grocerystore (i found out when i was in texas where we had to drive 30 miles for grocerys)
you can`t compare america with the netherlands
we can do all this because we are a small country and we work effecient here where ever we go in the netherlands we can take our bike with us even i public transport
america shoul work on public transport first before they start thinking of byciclelanes
you have a higher psychopath density
