Clonard Road Club ran the Cycling Leinster road race championships in the county Meath village of Clonard. There were two separate races, the main race for all seniors and juniors plus a separate race for all the masters categories. Both races did six laps of a circuit totalling 75kms.
In the main senior event, the racing was very aggressive, with many attacks, all of them getting hauled back except for the last 5km of the race. The final run to the finish was along a straight flat main road into a headwind. You wouldn’t expect a break to succeed but 3 riders, Padraig Moran (Orwell), Rhys Kenny (UCD) and George Sevastopulo (Sundrive) gave it a go and held the gap to the finish.
