What do you guys think? Completely new to bikepacking. Are these components nice? Enough eyelets? I like that it doesn’t have the Surly decal, but why would this be the case? The other 2013 cross-checks have it. Price is half a grand.

I still ride my 2013 CC every week. The geo is long and low, not really great for all day riding.
If it’s your first bike, buy it. It doesn’t do anything great, but it does everything pretty good.
It’s not the best bike for any situation but it will make it through nearly all of them. For $500 a good starter bike.
Surly’s decal are made to be removable, so the owner probably just took them off.
I have the exact same model/year/color, I would say it’s not the most capable bike out there for bikepacking specifically, but it’s a pretty good point of entry if you’re new to bikepacking. It’s a pretty versatile bike that will allow you to try different things if you want to, and you can get something more specific after some times when you have a better idea of what type of bikepacking you’re doing and what you want in a bike.
500$ for this is pretty cheap imo. The frame looks pretty good shape, components are nothing fancy but reliable. The only eyelets I feel are lacking are cargo mounts on the fork. I’d say go for it!
This is a good buy for the price. Surly’s also hold their value really well, If you decide later if you didn’t want to keep it. Like others have mentioned, it’s not great at anything but good for everything. I say, pull the trigger.
What are your measurements? I wouldn’t say this I’d the most ideal for offroad use but competent enough for light gravel and road for sure. The 38mm tires are pushing what it can handle but otherwise it’s an alright bike for the price though, not amazing.
