Recently rode some amazing routes in the French Alps and I think the descending cooked my rear rotor. Do I need to replace it? Never had this happen before
Nah, it got a bit toasty but until you’re seeing blue or purple on the rotor spokes you’re ok

No, mine also look like this. The rotor is still going strong. I can tell no difference.

The Internet can’t answer, every rotor has a minimum thickness. Yours might be 1.5mm I dunno. Colors aren’t going to answer. It got hot but 🤷♂️

Is it cooked? Why, yes. You roasted it until it was golden brown.
Is it still usable? Yes. As long as it is not warped and thick enough. You need a caliper to check that.
As for your brake pads, check them too.

Idk. Boil it for twenty minutes amd it’s is. Or pan fry. Ovens good for cooking too.

Your rotor shows signs of bluing. At temps above 500C you form magnetite on the rotor, a permanent nonstick coating. I have tried to remove it by grinding it off before without success. Best to start over with new rotor, new pads.

Pad glazing would be more of a concern than the rotor.
At least for me.
Getting pads that hot can cause some damage on the pads depending on the type and how they cooled (or didn’t if you had to keep operating with the hot braking conditions) and reduce performance.
Rotor can usually survive without as much concern, but as others noted – check for warping, thickness, and bluing.

the rotor is totally fine. you gotta worry when it goes from brown to blue. Id be more worried about your pads those are probably glazed. sand those down and clean the rotor, bed them in again, and go ride.
