Temple Cycles invited me to join them on a four-day, 190-mile bikepacking adventure from their shop on Brick Lane in London to their new store in Bristol.

In Part 1, we tackle the biggest days of the trip — leaving London, following the Thames, riding the Ridgeway, camping, meeting new people and dealing with more than a few mechanical problems along the way.

For me, this trip was about more than just getting to Bristol. I’ve driven across this part of the UK countless times, but travelling through it slowly by bike completely changes how you see it.
This is the first two days of the Temple Traverse.

Huge thanks to Temple Cycles for inviting me along, and to everyone on the ride for making it such a bloody good time.
Part 2 coming soon!

  1. Before we even start this, what does the ticket cost? I'm a cheap prick and what I lack in physical fitness I make up for through ignorance and obstanence 😮.
Love your videos, thanks for another great one.

  2. I had a similar problem with my gears skipping on my 3 week tour this summer – drove me crazy for the first week tweaking the barrel adjuster! After doing some research I installed a new chain and which solved the issue.

  3. Beautiful video. Greetings from Australia. Things get more uncanny by the year. Between our historical habit of naming towns after an English equivalent and your hot, dry weather it rides like a sci fi wormhole to me. Some of our drivers breached the wormhole around Henley. Your Welcome!❤️

  4. A lot of work? Just rinse the canal baby!!!! But this is me talking shit less than 2 minutes into the video. Bikepacking is the best for experiencing the middle bit

  5. Would highly recommend for anyone to look into one of the low-medium strength, removable Thread Lock products for your bike bolts and screws. They come in liquid and gel.
Saves from things getting loose, coming out of alignment or falling off.

  6. Awesome video! Some stuff didn't make sense to me; like why bother carrying a grinder and beans when there was a cafe almost every 10 km? Also, bringing rehydration tablets beats any Red Bull, this is the most likely reason you feel shit during the hot stretches. Also, for the sake of narration, perhaps avoid describing the minutiae of everything you ate, because everything is "fine".

  7. Pretty much now my favourite alt bicycle channel. Thanks for the great content. I need to know what the issue with your gears/cassette/derailleur turns out to be. Hurry up with the next episode!😂

  8. From experience, I've concluded disk brakes are more trouble than I want to deal with. The shoes wear out fast, the disks are vulnerable to being hit and warping, and adjustment problems. I love my V brakes and side pulls for the rims. I haven't had to adjust or replace pads for years. Disks work great and stop amazingly, but I've never needed that ability. The rim brakes work very well.
