Hi all i used to ride bikes around town with friends around 12-15 and completely stopped once i started driving. I don’t know what type of bikes we rode, as they were my friends’. One of them did have a gear shifter but i remember another one being a cruiser-type. I’m looking for something lightweight to carry up my apartment stairs and something I can slip into my crv. I am more of a cruiser, but I do like going fast and looking for something that will help me get more exercise. I’m 21f, 5’2 and around 185lb. My environment is pretty laidback roads, some uphill depending on if i purposely go that way. Mild traffic. I don’t mind walking a bike uphill if it can’t go uphill.

Do you think this would be a good fit for me? I don’t really like changing gears and fighting with the bike system, i don’t really understand it and want something easy.

  1. No. This will be large, heavy and difficult to load/carry (18.4kg) Also a bit of a nightmare anywhere there is hills; it’ll climb poorly and grip shift gears suck badly. At 21f you should be able to manage something a bit sportier, at least a hybrid or adventure bike.
If you really want a step through frame (do you?) something like a Marin Kentfield (13.6kg) might be worth a look? Or a Specialized Cirrus. Both +£170 more than the above but it will be ten times better and be resellable.

If budget is an issue, look locally on eBay or FB marketplace for bikes your size from bigger brands like Trek, Giant, Specialized etc. for the same money (~£250) you can do much, much better on the used market.

  2. How far and fast do you plan on riding? It is a breach cruiser style bike, these are not known for being great for longer and faster rides. It’s also almost certainly going to be on the heavy side, probably around forty pounds. Also, the wheels are secured with nuts, which will be a bit of a pain to put into a car- I put bikes in my trunk all the time, but often have to remove the front wheel, which is easy with a quick-release wheel, but a pain with a nutted wheel.
