Nearly 80% of children never cycle to school despite their parents’ desire to spend less time in the car on the school run.
When asked why cycling is not feasible, research from RedClick/Ireland Thinks found the leading reasons were the distance to school is too far at 54%, school bags are too heavy at 41%, unpredictable weather at 39% and a parent’s lack of confidence cycling with their children at 22%.

Wearing a skirt is not ideal for cycling, although there is an option for trousers, I prefer the skirt due to the warmth in my school. Heavy schoolbags is also an issue for secondary school students, though we are more able for it and not everyone has that problem, I understand
