Another week, another selection of jobs from the workshop. This one’s
got a good mix — a quick bearing swap that saved a customer £40, a
Mondraker brake and gear upgrade that turned into a bit of a routing
challenge, a Fulcrum hub that was almost completely seized, a 40 year
old steel bike with stripped bottom bracket threads, and a bike that
featured in my most viewed video ever — back in for a service.

I have the gx groupset, modded it so it's got the eagle Bbolt, was definitely worth it, can carbon mod it too if you want
Several years ago I started using sharpened bits of shishkabob skewers to plug brake hoses (toothpicks are slightlytoo small). So I don't have to worry about cut hoses making a mess. Super easy. Super cheap. Super helpful.
These bike companies don't care at all about ease of routing
You can see why mechanics charge a lot more for internal routed brake changes.

We've got a couple of those Park wheel holders in the misc. tools box in the basement (along with the penny-farthing tire wire stretcher). I've only ever found them to take up prime bench space while being slow and combersome to use. I have worked with a couple mechanics that like them . . . generally less experienced mechanics. Although, several of the guys in our shop place wheels on the tops of our trash barrels to change tires, and the like, which I also find combersome and unecessary. To each their own. Next we could debate the utility of axle vices for adusting hubs. 😉
Why are most BB completely rubbish nowadays?
I swear, you can get PF, BSA, T47, it just doesn't matter. Either the frame thread/bearing seat are messed up or the bearings themselves are terrible.
Meanwhile my 13 year old square taper unit in a low end BSA aluminium frame runs like new after some regreasing.
I'm really just waiting for one of my homemade frames to cause problems because they have been fitted with new BSA units.

28:50 the directors cut, not sure if I have ever seen this angle before…. Maybe experiment with it some more or add another camera (a wide angle so it’s no tighter than this shot..)
I missed a pair of Uktrgra rim brakes on eBay… I’ll continue to watch for a set but yes, that combination is more than enough for most people imo. The Giant is it too big (just a guess based on the length of the seat post..)
That Graham Weigh bike is from Shotton Wales.
I might be wrong but the bottom bracket shell on that weich frame seemed to have two 45° chamfers inside the frame bb shell, back in the day mavic made a bottom bracket saver bottom bracket that used a special tool and chamfers the frame like that and made a very high quality bb to fit, to find one these days might be hard, but I'll have a look for your customer for next time it needs replacing, bb's always need replacing at some point or other

Would this work for the Park bottom bracket tool.
A 32mm socket with rounded internal corners—often called a radius corner, flank-drive, or OGV design—grips the flat sides of a nut or bolt instead of pushing on the sharp corners.
My old 2014 Canyon Endurace is exactly that: super lightweight carbon, 2×11 Ultegra rim brake, DT Swiss wheels now with 28 tires and VLCS seat post. More than enough bike for my now 60+ years power train… and it’s a pleasant charm to work on when it comes to maintenance.
Most leisure riders definitely don’t need much more than that.
Just picked up a used Wilier Triestina in great condition for £150 and it’s a better ride than my all singing all dancing disc brake electric geared bike and a lot lighter 👍🏻

sram sh1te!!! As a clubmate said to me 20 years ago when asked why he was so far behind on the club spin, "I've sram gears,so I can't go,and I've sram brakes,so I can't stop!!".SHIMANO for the win,all day,every day!!
Not to tell you how to do your job but with sram on a full suspension your ment to use the set tool at 20% sag only on a hard tail you can set it in a stand
