on my smallest cog under load I get a jump I believe in my jockey wheels. it’s hard to replicate when my bike is on a stand but i’ve been playing with my cable tension and limit screws to no avail. it’s a trek marlin 8 that is about half a season old. my chain broke randomly on a trail and ever since putting new chain on i’ve been having some problems. any insight would help ! thank you!!

  1. have you had a crash on the derailleur side? from this angle it seems the derailleur hanger is slightly bent toward the wheel, which might explain why you have a random jump at the smallest cog

take a picture when it shifts to the largest cog from directly behind the derailleur/hanger

  2. Check that your derailleur hanger is straight first with a derailleur hanger alignment gauge. Then, set your H limit correctly.

From your picture it looks like it needs both of these adjustments.

Then make sure the cable tension is correct and set the L limit and B tension.

It sounds like you are just turning screws hoping it will fix it. (Since you mentioned turning both limit screws). You should probably watch the park tool video on how to adjust a rear derailleur.

  3. Don’t mess with limit screws unless you know what you’re doing, that can be dangerous.

Your hanger is definitely a little bent. You can try to straighten it a little with another rear wheel, quick release axle will have the same thread and you screw it into the the hanger. But yeah, probably watch some videos first.
