THE GOVERNMENT FAILED TO BAN E-BIKES! 🇬🇧 | UK E-BIKE LAW UPDATE 2026
A few months ago, I made a video explaining a proposed Parliamentary Bill that could have banned the sale and marketing of high-powered electric bikes and conversion kits that don’t comply with the UK’s EAPC regulations.
So, what’s happened to that Bill?
In this video, I’ve got a major UK e-bike law update for 2026. I explain what happened to the proposed Bill, why it has not become law, and what this actually means for anyone who owns or is thinking about buying a Surron, Talaria, electric motorcycle or high-powered e-bike in the UK.
But there’s an important twist…
Just because this particular Bill hasn’t become law doesn’t mean the authorities are backing away from high-powered e-bikes.
In fact, there have been some significant changes to how police can deal with vehicles being used illegally or antisocially.
I also explain the changes to Section 59, including the removal of the previous warning requirement in certain circumstances, and what this could mean for e-bike and e-moto riders.

They should be registered and insured , 50cc motorcycle has to registered and insurance so why should you get out of paying, it's definitely the scrotes spoiling it for you and others

The faster ebikes are just another scrambler if used right of track the speed limit could be a bit higher on the road but in town fair enough keep to the limit, the biggest problem is the we bike thieves running around and police cant do much so if these wee rats wouldn't be using them the way they do masked up being ass holes it's actually screwed alot of people from using bikes off road unless your at a track the British law will clamp down on anything they feel gives us the public the advantage

Why can't they be registered as electric motorcycles? Maybe because of type approval? I have had a fully registered ZERO DS for 10 years. They are zero emissions so ALL electric vehicles and scooters need to be made legal within sensible constraints. Other countries do this. Police have seized cargo bikes that are fully legal.
Truth be told as good as insurance should be on all yes whole point of ebike is to make more affordability cheaper to commute n give people more independence

Most bike don’t have 3 4 throttle most have 15mph disconnect or only use off road or just get pedals but reality is u need throttle to take off as safely aspect or get out of danger I can’t see y 15 mph can’t be used just ride safely don’t be idiot
It's just a few people who use e-bikes for crime. But I think all e-bikes and pedal bikes should all be registed and be insured to be on the road and have a form of mot to say that they are safe to be on the roads and all riders should do a cbt
They have arrested a man for walking out of the shop with baseball bat, that he just bought. Don't expect any common sense from the popo and gov. In chaos more swindles will go unnoticed.
The EPAC laws are massively out of date and need to be scrapped and rewritten, they where originally written back in the 80s when bikes where made of steel often heavy and a single gear and used rubbish will stop you next Tuesday rim brakes which was ok as you could barely get up to 10mph unless going down a hill and at the time ebikes where very primitive and heavy with bad brakes, Modern non electric bikes are like space age tech in comparison with light wight alloy frames / many gears and very good disc brakes and even modern mountain bikes with the right gearing can easily go over 20 with a little effort, I had an old Sarracen dirtax 2000 from 1999 and even with its stock gearing i could get up to and cruse at 20mph on the flat and with a tail wind push over 25mph and down a hill easily 40. Since getting older and larger in older years i moved to an ebike originally wanting a high power one only to be disappointed by the draconian laws around them, eventually got a 250w bike and well as as we all know they are basically pointless as ebikes are heavy so you loose pretty much all of the benefit if the motor as it has to push its own wieght, but it gets worse while I am capped at 15.5mph pushing past that is almost impossible due to the weight and motor drag and not a single day goes past where I am not over taken by a non electric cyclist flying past me at 20 or more.
Karen's really need to go back into their caves and stay out of peoples lives because they have not got a clue, when it comes to criminal activity ebikes are not the problem they are just the latest tool to be used , people act like bike gangs and drug movers on bikes are a new thing …. they are not they have been around for ever using motorbikes they bought or stole and phone thief's have been using stolen 125s and scooters long before ebikes where popular but unlike the government that is stuck in the past unwilling to adapt thieves and drug dealers are more than happy to use the latest tech, and banning ebikes is as dumb as banning knives it will not stop them they will just usen them regardless or they will go back to steaking motorbikes and scooters .

Round were I am they have been seizing every electric bike they see even after some people got government grants to buy them so the government are aiding you to break the laws after giving you money to do it its a government aided crime system to now fine you and seize it even when you got financial aid from them to get it
The big bikes seron etc are screwing it up for ordinary e bikes users . The large e bikes are supposed to be reregistered and insured as with petrol bikes .
A little girl near me had her arm snapped in half by a guy riding on the path recently, he didnt stop either.
they just need to make it easy for these bikes to be registered, simple as that. if they allowed the companies to make all models registerable, whether its the road legal version or not and allow you to register them and convert them with a road legal package sold by the companies, it would allow the police to enforce it correctly. at the end of the day, cars, bikes, e motos are all the same, they can be abused, ridden illegally and theft and crime can be committed while operating any of them. it's just the fact that thieves prefer the emottos over cars as there quiet, faster and slicker to get away.
I've not got a problem with anything on the roads as long as your insured. As I'm a victim of a E rider.. driving into my driveway a rider doing atleast 25mph on the wrong side went in the side quarter panel leaving a 3k bill for me to find..🤔
what about e scooters ?
The law is an ass so you’re telling me a mature biker in his 60s with a full motorcycle license for 40 years that has had some high powered motorcycles like Kawasaki 1400s R1s Capable of 160 mile an hour plus is not allowed to ride a pedal assist Bike, Over 250W the world has gone mad It’s quite easy to regulate those with full motorcycle licenses should be allowed to ride bike pedal, assist or not over 250 W simple
