Here’s another shot showing the 38t chainring in the “middle location”. I tried to place a caliper between the two rings: it’s hard to get an accurate reading, but it’s about 7.25mm

8s chainring spacing with 10s or higher chain? 7-9 in the rear usually is fine but when you go higher chains get narrower and that matters for cog spacing.
You can often fix it by machining off a bit from the mounts for the small chainring.

Did you swap the inner chainring? Looks like it’s for 1x setup.
