After viewing this clip how to remove spacers I got the one from 10mm out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8yV4sP7a-M. However when I tried to put the cockpit down again to tighten it all: impossible. Now there is a big gap and I'm afraid I screwed things up big time. If I push the cockpit down the gap appears further down (don't know the correct term for in English) Have done this multiple times with previous bikes, but seemed to turn out in a nightmare.
Is there a way I can fix this myself of should I go to a Canyon service centre nearby?

Can you measure how much of the steering tube extends and how deep the hole in the cockpit is, if you understand what I mean?
You need to cut the fork
eh you probably need to shorten the fork
With a Monocoque there is a limit how much tube ca. Be moved upwards.
With other cockpit you would need spacers.
Final decision without return would be cut the tube the same distance as you removed with spacers below
Is the fork can’t go through the top of your stem/handlebar, you need to cut the fork.
No need to cut. Just press down hard on the headset and it should twist down to the fork. “With light pressure”
Try rotating the cockpit left and right whilst applying some pressure. It will go down. There will be a small gap, which will disappear when you apply the preload from the screw at the top of the stem.
Source: I removed my spacers in my Aeroad 2026 and also had trouble fitting the stem back on.
You don’t need to cut the fork.
Looks like this is the cp0048 pace cockpit. If this is the case then there is no need to cut anything unlike the other comments say….
If the steerer tube can’t pass through the top of the stem, then you must trim the steerer tube.
Super crazy how many people suggest to cut the steerer tube. There’s really no need! Maybe the brake lines are preventing you to push it back in. I’d remove the drops (two screws per side on the underside of the handlebar) and then carefully tighten the tension bolt on the top of the handlebar to push it in place correctly and to adjust the play for the steering bearing. Afterwards tighten the screw at the back of the handlebar to adjust and fix to the fork. Hope it helps.

Do NOT cut the fork. Something must be blocking it so maybe take it apart again and see but it’s should all go together by hand, then use the preload tool to get it all in place and tight then tighten the bolt that clamps on to the fork. If it doesn’t do this without using a ton of force than my only guess is a brake hose must be in the way or something. Again, do NOT CUT THE FORK
Well I thought it would be very strange if Canyon makes a “how to adjust cockpit height” clip which isn’t possible to do. It’s the newer CP0048 cockpit. Anyway I managed to get it back in, however a irreparable thing apparently happened: a tiny piece of carbon broke off 😢
I suppose this only has cosmetic consequences? At the moment I feel it really sucks…I tried to do it all as gentle as possible, but it was completely different than what I was used to.

People shouldn’t be able to purchase a canyon bike with stupid ah internal routing without having worked on at least a couple other headsets. It’s sadly a mechanics needs to fix everything bike
Glad you managed to push it down in the end. And yeah, the bit of damage behind the spacers on top tube is just a paint chip. Just touch it up as best as you can.

People who have obviously not the slightest clue about how the cockpit and fork interface on an Aeroad, should refrain from posting stupid advice about cutting the steerer.
You shouldn’t be messing with your bike if you can’t do this. Look up headset adjustment on youtube
