Just how good is Pauline Ferrand Prévot actually? Olympic champion. Tour de France Femmes winner. Road World Champion. Mountain Bike World Champion. Cyclocross World Champion. Gravel World Champion. Very few cyclists in history have dominated across so many completely different disciplines. But Pauline Ferrand Prévot’s story is about far more than rainbow jerseys and gold medals. Born into a cycling family in Reims, France, Ferrand Prévot emerged as one of Europe’s greatest young talents before accomplishing something almost unimaginable: becoming an elite world champion across road cycling, mountain biking and cyclocross.
Then came injuries, surgery, Olympic disappointment and years in which her career could easily have gone in a completely different direction. She came back. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, racing in front of her home crowd, Pauline Ferrand Prévot finally captured the Olympic mountain bike gold medal that had eluded her throughout her career. Then she made another extraordinary decision. She returned her focus to professional road cycling. And in 2025, she won the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, adding another defining achievement to one of the most versatile careers cycling has ever seen.
In this documentary, we examine what actually makes Pauline Ferrand Prévot so exceptional.
From her childhood in France and early world championship success to her extraordinary ability to transition between road racing, mountain biking, cyclocross and gravel, we explore the physiology, technical skill, mentality and sacrifices required to compete at the highest level across completely different forms of cycling.
We also examine the setbacks that nearly derailed everything.
Ferrand Prévot battled iliac artery endofibrosis and underwent surgery after experiencing serious problems with blood flow to her leg. She endured Olympic disappointment, crashes, mechanical problems and the psychological pressure that comes with being expected to win.
Yet she repeatedly rebuilt herself.
Her career eventually produced an extraordinary collection of victories across virtually every terrain cycling can offer.
Road.
Mud.
Mountains.
Gravel.
Cobbles.
Grand Tours.
Olympic competition.
That versatility separates Pauline Ferrand Prévot from almost every other rider of her generation.
But it also creates a fascinating debate. Where does she rank among the greatest female cyclists ever? Marianne Vos built one of cycling’s most extraordinary careers through incredible longevity and dominance across road and cyclocross.
Jeannie Longo accumulated an enormous collection of championships across decades. Anna van der Breggen and Annemiek van Vleuten became defining forces of modern women’s road cycling.
Ferrand Prévot’s argument is different. Her legacy is built around range. Few athletes have successfully transferred elite performance between disciplines with such different physiological and technical demands. Road cycling rewards endurance, positioning and tactical patience. Cross country mountain biking requires explosive climbing and exceptional bike handling. Cyclocross demands repeated accelerations and technical precision. Gravel introduces another combination of endurance, terrain and equipment management.
Pauline Ferrand Prévot conquered them all. And after winning Olympic gold, she proved she could return to the road and win cycling’s biggest women’s stage race.
So perhaps the question is no longer whether Pauline Ferrand Prévot is one of cycling’s greatest athletes. The question is: How high does she belong on the all time list?
