Well kids, that's why in German they call him "Der Meister", because music-wise what he did was (mostly) masterful.

I saw the Neuenfels’ Lohengrin in two different years in Bayreuth. While I admit that I didn’t understand many of his directorial concepts, I actually enjoyed the performances quite a lot. Vogt was not a conventional Heldentenor, but I found his Lohengrin quite touching.
Ez borzasztó, ez istentelen! A mai rendezők (kivétel alig van) közveszélyes őrültek, akiknek nem operaházban, hanem elmeintézetben kellene lenniük elektroshock kezelés alatt. Wagner és a család még normális tagjai (Cosima asszony, Siegfried és Winifred asszony forognak a sírjukban, sírnak és átkozódnak, mivé fajult az ő színházuk. Vajon van-e még visszaút a normalitás felé, vagy már az egész Bayreuthot be kell szántani és sóval behinteni?

A comment section full of reactionary, dare I say it, snowflakes. How are you possibly going to put on Wagner without innovating, without being bold, without trying new things? That was his whole idea: to do things on the stage that had never been done before. All that to say, thank you for highlighting some amazing performances. Can't wait to see where people will take these timeless works next.
Some of these productions would look so silly to me if I hadn’t seen worse from San Francisco Opera. Here, they do anything to prevent you from following the story and try to make the sets and costumes clash as much as possible so that you can’t determine the composer’s intent or connect emotionally. 🤔
No one does Wagner like Bayreuth. Styles change but the impact is still overwhelming. Here's to the next 150!

Just finished watching the 150th anniversary ring at Bayreuth: the music and singers were outstanding, truly among the best versions I’ve ever heard. The scenery was all AI generated, visually interesting but quite often random and like watching a screen saver playing on for hours straight. The worst were the costumes and total absence of symbols: no ring, no speer, no sword. People gesticulating at each other with nothing in their hands. Embarrassing and a diminishing of the gesamtkunstwerke idea. The singers and conductor got 7 stage calls. The stage director and stenographer got a massive booing from the audience.
Beste Inszenierungen waren zwischen 1950 — 1995 !
2:10 Imagine you're a poor guy from a developing country who's obsessed with opera, and Lohengrin above all else. You spend five years saving for the trip, then another five years on a waiting list. It's the trip of a lifetime — you go there like a pilgrim going to Mecca. And after all that, you end up at the 2011 production with fucking rats singing the Bridal Chorus. That’s got to piss you off so much.
The rat Lohengrin, the trailer trash Tanhaüser, the typewriter Meistersinger, even the Gral-smashing Parsifal after those faint-hearted have been carried out onto der Grüner Hügel, in comparison to this year’s 150 anniversary Ring they are all classics.
Wenn Wagner gewusst hätte, dass seine Meisterwerke dereinst, selbst in seinem Bayreuth, von solchen Scharlatanen verhunzt werden🤮🤮🤮
